Chiropractors, as healthcare professionals, focus on disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Your Body The brain is the central command system of the body, controlling, and regulating the function of every cell, tissue, and organ. The central nervous system encompasses your brain and spinal cord. The brain is protected by your skull and the spinal cord is protected by 26 individual vertebrae that make up your spine. The brain communicates with all parts of the body through the peripheral nervous system. The peripheral nerves exit from the spinal cord and pass through the individual holes in the spine to reach their target body part. Along this passageway, the nerve may become irritated due to a misalignment of the vertebra referred to as a subluxation. This misalignment can be caused by thoughts, traumas, or toxins. Irritation of the nerve may result in headaches, migraines, neck pain, back pain, arm and leg pain, and much more. |

Doctors of Chiropractic (D.C.)
Often referred to as chiropractors (chiro = hand, practor = to practice) practice an alternative form of medicine utilizing a drug-free, hands-on approach, to healthcare that includes patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and can also recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as provide nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle counseling. Through a clinical examination consisting of a case history, orthopedic and neurological tests as well as diagnostic imaging or laboratory testing (if necessary), a chiropractor will determine if a chiropractic
treatment is appropriate. Chiropractors will refer patients to an appropriate healthcare provider when
chiropractic care is not suitable for the condition or will co-manage patient care when necessary.
How does it work?
Chiropractors' most common method of correcting subluxation is through a “chiropractic adjustment”. Whether using their hands or an instrument, a chiropractor works to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury. Tissues may become injured over time due to improper lifting, poor posture, or even small repetitive stresses such as sitting in front of a computer or driving a car.
Injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function. A chiropractic adjustment of the affected joint and other therapeutic techniques to the tissues around the joint restore mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal and function at their optimal performance.
